VHS Boys Basketball Gold Crown Shoot-A-Thon
Saturday -- November 29th, 2025
We are so excited to announce the First Annual MVHS Boys Basketball Gold Crown Shoot-A-Thon (We’re workshopping a better title)
The Event: Join us for a JV/Varsity Intersquad Scrimmage at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 29th (two days after Thanksgiving). We’ll have a Dunk Contest at Halftime and Shooting Contests involving Gold Crown Players.
At the conclusion of the scrimmage, we will pull down the baskets in both gyms and our feeder players will shoot 100 free throws each with other players from their team/grade. Depending on the number of players, I think this will take between 1.5 and 3 hours.
What We’re Raising Money For: We will split the proceeds between the Mountain Vista Boys Basketball Program and MVHS Wish Week 2026.
Goal: We would love for each player to set a goal to try to raise $200.
Why would I raise money for MVHS Boys Basketball? If your son is playing in our feeder, I hope they want to come to Mountain Vista and be a part of our basketball program. As you know, the world is pretty (really) expensive right now. In recent years we have had to raise our fees to keep our program in the black. If we do a little better job of fundraising, we can reduce fees and give both our current and future players a better experience for less money.
Why would I raise money for Make-A-Wish? There are a lot of great causes in the world. Make-A-Wish is undoubtedly one of them. I have seen first hand the power of a Wish on a child, a family, and an entire community. When kids get to Mountain Vista, Wish Week is the thing they most look forward to. This will allow them to be involved in granting wishes a little earlier.
Plus, we’ll have prizes for the Best Shooter and Highest Fundraiser in each grade!
What Do I Do? You will need to talk to family, friends, and associates about pledging $ to our Shoot-A-Thon. Those people who pledge with you will be able to do so in two ways:
- Pledge a lump sum amount. Participants are more than welcome to pledge a guaranteed amount to the team, regardless of how many shots the player makes.
- Pledge a specific amount for each MADE shot. Players will each shoot 100 free throws and pledged amounts will be calculated on shots made.
What If I Can’t Be There on Saturday, November 27th? We get it, people travel during Thanksgiving! If you can’t join us for our event, please just find a time that week to get to a gym and Shoot 100 free throws. We ARE planning on making this a tradition moving forward on the Saturday of Thanksgiving.
Is This Mandatory? Absolutely not. That being said, we’d love as many participants as possible, and players will get a chance to both watch and share the court with Varsity Basketball players at their home school. It should be a very fun day!
How Do I Collect The Money? The easiest option is to share this LINK (we are working on this, and it should be updated with an actual link early this week). If your donor would rather donate with a Check, please just collect those and give them to your direct Gold Crown Coach, who will get them to me. Make sure checks are made out to MVHS Boys Basketball.
